Welcome to the Digital Uplift Project (“we”, “us”, “our”). We are committed to empowering our community while respecting and protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose and protect your data when you visit our website (digitalupliftproject.com), participate in our programs or otherwise interact with us. It is designed to comply with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

1. Our commitment to accountability.

We are committed to collecting only the personal information that is necessary for the specific purposes we identify. Your knowledge and consent are required for the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information. This may include:

Personal and Contact Information: Your name, email address, phone number and postal code when you register for programs, subscribe to our newsletter or contact us;
Application Details: Information you provide when applying for our programs, such as student capstone projects or community services, which helps us assess eligibility and fit; and
Technical Information: When you visit our website, we may automatically collect technical information, which may include your IP address, browser type and operating system. We also use cookies as described below. We collect this to ensure our website functions correctly and to improve user experience.

3. How we use your information.

We use your information strictly to deliver our mission and operate our programs. This includes:

Registering you for workshops, summer camps and training programs;
Communicating with you about your projects, applications or inquiries;
Improving our programs and services; and
Creating anonymized, aggregated reports (which do not contain personal information) to share our impact with grant providers and community stakeholders.

4. How we share your information.

We will never sell or rent your personal information. We only share your information in the following limited circumstances:

Program Partners: With program delivery partners, including Monarch Digital Studio, MOA Career Academy and the ACE Foundation, who assist in facilitating our projects and capstones. We use contractual or other means to ensure these partners provide a comparable level of protection to your information and use it only for the purposes of program delivery;
Service Providers: With service providers who perform functions on our behalf, such as website hosting or data storage. Some of these providers may be located outside of Canada (see “International Data Transfers” below); and
Legal and Safety: When required by law or to protect our legal rights or if we believe there is a risk of significant harm to an individual.

5. Cookies and analytics.

Our website uses “cookies”small text files placed on your device – to function and to help us improve. We use:

Functional Cookies: These are necessary for the website to operate; and
Analytics Cookies: We use third-party services like Google Analytics to understand how visitors engage with our site. This information is aggregated and anonymized.

6. International data transfers.

Some of our service providers may be located in other countries, such as the United States. This means your personal information may be transferred, stored and processed outside of Canada. Right to Challenge Compliance: To challenge our compliance with PIPEDA by contacting our Privacy Officer.

To make a request, please contact our Privacy Officer by email. We will respond to your request within 30 days, at minimal or no cost.

9. Protecting children’s privacy.

We are committed to protecting the privacy of children. In line with guidance from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental or guardian consent. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information without your consent, please contact us immediately so we can take steps to delete it.

10. Changes to this policy.

Our processes may evolve. We may update this policy occasionally and will post the updated version on this page with a new “Last Updated” date. For any material changes, we will provide a more prominent notice.
